At Hartig Drug, our customers are the reason we do what we do - and our employees are how we make it happen. They’re the heart that keeps Hartig beating, and we’re grateful for their dedication every day.

We’re proud to introduce Zak Williams, our Senior IT Technician at the Corporate Office, as one of our Hearts of Hartig.

Zak began his journey with Hartig Drug in August of 2010, as an IT Assistant at our corporate office in Dubuque, Iowa. Ever ready and willing, he jumped in to fix the many IT and equipment issues a local chain of pharmacies may face. Over the years, Zak has truly seen it all—from the addition of eight locations to several relocations, all while supporting the nation’s second-oldest family-owned drugstore chain. In fact, tackling challenges like these is what he enjoys most. When presented with a new issue, Zak dives into research, finds solutions, and puts his knowledge into action—helping staff at every location succeed. And whether customers realize it or not, his work ultimately supports them, too. No two problems are exactly the same, and often they happen across multiple locations, which means every day brings something new.

You may not realize it, but Zak works on everything from a simple mouse at a workstation to cameras, computers, servers, and more. He has extensive knowledge of the equipment and technology it takes to keep a chain of drugstores running. Basically, if it’s plugged in, Zak has likely had a hand in it—whether through installation, troubleshooting, updates… or occasionally recommending the tried-and-true fix: turning it off and back on again.

Traveling to more than 20 locations across three states, Zak says one of the best parts of his job is working with—and learning from—the different personalities at each store. While his “home” base may be the Corporate Offices in Dubuque, he takes pride in supporting all locations and enjoys seeing the relief and appreciation from coworkers when he solves a problem.

Now entering his 16th year at Hartig Drug, Zak continues to learn and adapt to new technologies to help keep Hartig a top pharmacy choice across the Tri-State area.

When he’s not at work, Zak loves to travel—which might be why this role suits him so well. He’s been making his way across the country and currently has just nine states left to visit!
